Free Minnesota CDL Air Brakes Test 2025

Without passing the Minnesota DVS CDL Air Brakes Knowledge Test, your CDL will include the restriction “L,” preventing you from operating commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) with air brakes. Failing the air brakes test in Minnesota results in a one-day waiting period and a retest fee should you decide to retake the test. But don’t worry! We have designed our Minnesota DVS CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests to help you pass your knowledge exam on the first attempt.

Securing a CDL without an air brake restriction is essential for opening countless job opportunities in Minnesota. Most semi-trucks and tractor-trailers rely on air brakes for safe navigation. From the flat plains and rolling hills to the rugged and hilly roads in the Iron Range and North Shore, the state’s varied terrain presents unique challenges that often require air brakes. Winter weather conditions with ice and snow demand precise braking on the state’s steep roads. Key transportation routes like I-35 (connecting Duluth and Minneapolis-St. Paul), I-94 (the major east-west route for transport), and Route 2 and Highway 61 (hilly Lake Superior shoreline with sharp curves) require air brake-qualified drivers. The restriction “L” severely limits your job opportunities in the transportation industry.

The Land of 10,000 Lakes relies on drivers with the air brake qualification in key industries, including agriculture, mining (the Iron Range), and logistics and manufacturing (3M, Target). Other major companies requiring this qualification include Anderson Trucking Service (St. Cloud), C.H. Robinson (Eden Prairie), and TMC Transportation (Minneapolis) in the logistics sector, as well as Metro Transit (Twin Cities) and Jefferson Lines (Minneapolis and Duluth) in the public transit and charter services industry. The mining and forestry industry also requires air brake-qualified drivers, especially in northern Minnesota. The “L” restriction disqualifies you from these and many other jobs.

Our CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests cover all essential knowledge for the official DVS Air Brakes Knowledge Test. You will learn information that is also useful as you practice inspecting and operating CMVs to pass your skills test. The written Air Brakes knowledge test features multiple-choice questions based on the state’s CDL manual (Minnesota CDL Handbook 2025) and requires a score of at least 80% to pass.

Our Practice Tests mimic the official knowledge test and offer immediate feedback on all responses. This scientifically proven approach dramatically speeds learning and ensures you pass the knowledge test.
